Registration@Sena; DAW (Tuesday, 6 July, 2022)

I completed my registration at Sena. Sena manages the rights of performers and producers, who receive payment from Sena if their music has been played in public. I signed-up as an artist (e.g., musician) and as a producer (financial responsibility for a recording and owner of the ‘master tape’). Half of the payment for each track played goes to the artist(s), the other half goes to the producer. Because I self-publish my music, I am both an artist and producer, thus will be payed 100% for each song (although, at this moment I don’t expect that my songs will be played in public).

As producer, I also requested a master owner code that I can use to create ISRCs myself and assign them to the repertoire (i.e., sound recordings but not midi recordings) of which I am the master owner (currently all my songs on Spotify). I will embed these ISRC codes as part of the metadata in future songs (masters) that I make.

The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) enables sound recordings and music videos to be uniquely and permanently identified. ISRC helps to avoid ambiguity among recordings and simplifies the management of rights when recordings are used across different formats, distribution channels or products. The ISRC for a recording remains a fixed point of reference when the recording is used across different services, across borders, or under different licensing deals. For its format and more information see the ISRC handbook.
