Reaper Mixing Tutorial (Saterday, 5 June, 2021)
Recently, I organized a tutorial ‘Mixing for Dummies‘ using Reaper. The challenge was to mix the song Long Way Home from David Tyo. (Support the artist [here]). I gave a short introduction to DAWs after which all the participants had about 1.5 hour to configure Reaper and make a mix only using volume balancing, panning, EQ, and reverb. I also tried to make a mix myself within one our following the same restrictions.
The three mixes are very different. The mix from Aldo Jongejan is more focused on the piano (and perhaps a bit too much of reverb). The mix from Rodrigo Garcia is acoustic. He only left in the acoustic guitar! The vocals in his mix are clipping and, hence, sound distorted. Finally, my imperfect mix. Difficult to balance the vocals without further processing.
