Style | Pop, instrumental, sax lead |
Date | November 2014 |
Composed and Arranged by | Antoine van Kampen |
Performed by | Antoine van Kampen (keys), Bas van Kampen (guitar), Peter van der Voort (sax) |
Recorded by | Antoine van Kampen |
Composition note | The composition is written in Am but includes a E major at several places. During the guitar solo, the piece is transposed to A major. The structure of the composition is Intro – Part A – Part B – Part A – Piano Solo – Guitar Solo – Part A – Outro. The lead sax is based on a simple melodic pattern that I vary throughout the composition. The violin part at the end is a variation of the intro part but using sixteenth notes. |
Production note | The basic composition was made in Sibelius 7.5 (Avid; alt sax, bass guitar, piano, strings, violin). This composition was transferred to Cubase 7.5 (Steinberg), where I added several tracks (piano solo, oboe, hammond) that were played live though the Nord Stage 2 and recorded into Cubase. The solo piano and hammond sound are produced by the Nord Stage 2. Bas van Kampen played the rhythm guitar and solo guitar parts on a Ibanez JEM 777WH. The rhythm guitar under the piano solo was added by using RealGuitar (Music Lab). The 5 piece horn section was added using Horn Session Pro (Native Instrument). The timpani’s during the intro and outro were added by using Action Strikes (Native Instruments). The drums track was composed in BFD3 (Fxpansion). The oboe, string and violin sounds are produced by the Symphonic Orchestra (EWQL) sound library. The alt sax sound is produced by Horn Session Pro (Native Instruments) but in the second version played live by Peter van der Voort (thanks!). The bass guitar sound is produced by Jay Bass and Guitar Rig (Native Instruments). The rhythm piano sound is produced by piano library (Native Instruments). The live guitar parts were recorded through a DI box and post-processed by AmpliTube (IK Multimedia). The final composition was mixed using various sound processors and effects. Final mastering was done in Wavelab 8.5 (Steinberg). This composition was completed in about 12 weeks. |
