Roland A-880 MIDI Patchbay
Roland A-880 midi patcher and merger to interconnect MIDI devices (e.g., my synthesizers, hammond, etc) but also to connect these instruments to my computer using the simple Roland UM-1G USB MIDI interface. This allows to record MIDI into the DAW or to play MIDI files from the DAW while using my synthesizers as sound source. The Roland A-880 allows to patch 1 MIDI channel to 1 or more other channels. However, only two MIDI channels can be merged.

I have a master midi controller on Channel 1 going into the A880 and then out to 7 synths and a drum machine.
They are all on different midi channels but sometime I want to play the exact same thing on 3 synths (stacking the sounds) and then other times I want to play them one at a time
Is there way to do this with the A880?
Not sure if I understand your question. Your controller is on channel 1 then you mean Midi Input 1 on the A880?. If your midi controller sends on, for example, midi channel 3 then only the synth synth that receives on midi channel 3 will play. If you want 3 synths to play on midi channel 3 then you need to set the midi receive channel to 3 on each of the synths. There is no way of doing this with the A880.
I have the a880 The controller is on the ch2 input if I want I can play all the 8 output.
to save rooms I stack some synth and dum
Ch1 imput for a guitar synth as controller
Out
Ch1 midi clock to fx hardware
Ch2 five synth each one with a different midi channel 01 to 05
CH3 more 5 synths
CH4 three samplers
Ch5 Msq700 sequencer
Ch6 Q80 eX Sequencer
Ch7 five drum machines
CH8 TX816 then thru to host midi instrument as guitar synth wind synth etc
so no limits…
